Bird Research Center in Hambantota

Bird Research Center in Hambantota

Hambantota Bird Sanctuary is the largest bird sanctuary in Asia as well as a research center. This zoo is a research laboratory for many university students studying zoology. Here students can observe many things such as animal behavior patterns, reproductive patterns, and eating patterns. Special facilities are also provided here.

Efforts are being made to cultivate a wide variety of plants and fruits throughout the park. Even inside the birdcage, a variety of fruit trees have been planted. The most common are the drought-tolerant guava trees.

If you are leaving Colombo to visit the Bird Park, you can take the expressway to Matara. Coming from Matara and passing Hambantota town you can turn left at Katuwawawewa junction and reach 7km to reach the bird sanctuary.
