Devon Falls in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

Nuwara Eliya is a must-visit city for all tourists visiting Sri Lanka. There are many amazing and mind-blowing locations to see. Devon Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. It is also known as the “Veil of the Valley”, the waterfall is around 97m in height and is Sri Lanka’s 19th highest. This waterfall is located on the A7 road in Nuwara Eliya district, 6km west of Talawakele.

This waterfall is made by a tributary of the Kotmale Oya, a tributary of the Mahaweli River. The elevation of Devon Falls is about 1140 m above sea level. Further, it is one of the six falls impacted with the upper Kotmale hydropower project. But it has been unable to reduce the water capacity of the fall. The falls are named after a pioneer English coffee planter called Devon, whose plantation was situated nearby the falls. If you don’t like adventure you can enjoy a view while on the main road from Talawakelle to Hatton. But a closer look is worth it. You have to stop at the 20-mile post and walk 1 km through the lush green tea plantations and reach the waterfall.

You can also visit St. Clair Falls, near Devon Falls. The salubrious climate has been an extra feature of the area to be experienced. There are also several places you can get lodging just a few kilometers away. You can also enjoy a delicious cup of Sri Lankan tea from the Malasena Tea Center located close to the main road. If you can reach the top of the cascade, the view at the bottom of the fall will be breathtaking. Try not to swim or take a bath near the fall. Sometimes it will be dangerous. Please don’t pollute the area. Leave only footprints.
