Galway’s Land National Park is a small 27 hectare (0.10 sq m) national park with dense montane forests. It is located 2 km (1 mile) east of the city center on the outskirts of Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. It was formally declared a wildlife sanctuary on May 27, 1938.
[envira-gallery id=”6424″]Galway’s Land was upgraded to National Park on 18 May 2006. The park was declared to conserve the Montene Ecosystem. Sri Lanka’s field ornamental team considers Victoria Park in Nuwara Eliya and Galway’s land to be two of the most important bird sanctuaries in Sri Lanka. There are about 20 rare migratory bird species and about 30 endemic species in Galway Land. Apart from Avifauna, this garden has valuable flower species of local and foreign origin.
