Kabaragala Mountains Range in Nawalapitiya

Kabaragala Mountains Range in Nawalapitiya

Kabaragala is the highest mountain in the Dolosbage mountain range. This is about 1506 meters high. Among the other mountains, with the location, a lot of people are climbing this mountain looking to camp here. At the bottom of the hill are a solitary pine forest and a tea plantation.

If you are coming to Kabaragala you can take the Nawalapitiya – Ginigathhena road as well as the Nawalapitiya – Dolosbage road. If you are coming from Gampola you can also go to this place from Dolosbage Road. If you use public transport, get on Dolosba’s bus to Gampola or Nawalapitiya and get off at Maryville Junction. Only CTB buses ply on this route.

Or there is another way. Get on the Gampola Kurudhuwatta bus, get off at Medagoda Junction, pay around Rs. 180, and come to Maryville Estate with a wheel. From there, on the road to the right, on the way to Dolosba, there is a bungalow on the left-hand side. The road has fallen through this bungalow. The plantation workers are always here so you can ask them and go up the hill. If you go fast there is a hike of about an hour. It’s not that hard to climb the mountain.

From the top, you can see the Kotmale Mahaweli Stupa, the Kotmale Reservoir, the Sri Padasthana, the Ambuluwawa, and the Garandi Ella except when it is not covered with fog. Come here and go for a night camping which is a great experience. At night you can look strangely beautiful here. Some people who went there say that a tiger lives here. But the villagers say it is just a rumor. It is said that there is no such animal here. Also, the people living in the lower part of the plantations even run the plantations.
