Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary

Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary is another beautiful place in Sri Lanka. Kalametiya is a coastal wetland located on the beautiful southeastern coast of Sri Lanka. It is an ideal place for those who love birds and explore it. Among them, migratory bird species attract everyone’s attention. It’s also a great way to see the birds, have fun, and take a boat trip. Also, Kalametiya is one of the most beautiful places to walk in the forest.

Kalametiya is located about 20km from Tangalle town in the Hambantota district. Kalametiya is a wonderful place to go on a picnic with friends and family. You can explore over 150 species of birds, about 45 species of tourists, about 41 species of mammals, and about 38 species. There are four nationally threatened birds found within the sanctuary – Indian Reef Heron, Glossy Ibis, Sri Lankan Jungle Fowl, and Black-capped Purple Kingfisher, with Jungle Fowl being the only endemic species.

What can we do in Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary?

It is also possible to walk in the forest area belonging to the sanctuary. The water of this lagoon is slightly different as it is close to the Hambantota sea area. During a refreshing ride, you can see a variety of bird species and take pictures of yourself. Undoubtedly it will be a very pleasant experience. Tourists can enjoy a boat ride through the sanctuary, which takes approximately 2.5 – 3 hours. Morning trips are recommended for the best view and experience; As in the daytime, the sunlight is too harsh to enjoy a comfortable boat ride. Always be sure to stay in the sun, water and wear comfortable clothes.

So, especially if you are visiting this Kalametiya Sanctuary, you should be reminded not to take unnecessary polythene and plastic and destroy that environment. Also, do not harass the animals unnecessarily. So keep all this in mind and go watch this one too.
