Madulsima mini world’s end

Madulsima mini world's end

Madulsima is a remote village situated in the Uva province of Sri Lanka. It is a popular picturesque village for hiking and camping. One such popular attraction is the Madulsima Mini World’s End, a popular mountaineering site in the area. Many adventurers also enjoy camping above the clouds during their hikes at Madulsima. Mount Madulsima has an elevation of 383 m and is located at an altitude of 700-1000 m above sea level.

The highest part of the mountain belongs to the Roebbery Estate. Madulsima Mini Worlds End, also known as Pitamaruwa Mini Worlds End, is located at the end of this estate. Legend says that the town got its name ‘Pitamaruwa’ because this was the place tea boxes being transported were exchanged from one set of caravans to another. Madulsima is a heavenly place located high above and mostly covered with fog and feels like someone is walking among the clouds. You can see a spectacular view of waterfalls like Umang Oya, Bambarabotuwa, and Kekunagala.

How to get there:

If you travel by bus, you can take the Colombo-Badulla 99 route bus and from Badulla, you could take a bus from Badulla to Pitamaruwa. The journey to Badulla takes approximately 7-8 hours and takes about 3-4 hours from Badulla to Pitamaruwa. You can descend from the 30th-milepost and walk 1.1 km from there. From that road you will find a footpath to your left with a summer hut, you must take that path to reach the world’s end.

If you are going to camp in Madulsime, bring enough food. Because it is difficult to find a shop nearby. Madulsima is the last city you will find on your journey so make sure you buy everything you need from there. You have to get some leech protection as the path is wet and slippery. Have a rain cover to the tents as well as carry a raincoat along as you might experience heavy rain. Be careful as bees occupy that place at certain times of the year. You do not have to carry a lot of water as there is a stream of water with water that can be consumed. Avoid contaminating the area with plastic or polythene. Also, avoid walking around at night. The morning was amazing, the blooming sun was breathtaking and the glowing sun shining beneath the world’s end was breathtaking.
