Namumukula Mountain Range

Namumukula Mountain Range

It is the second-highest mountain range in the Uva Province and the 13th highest mountain range in Sri Lanka at an altitude of 2036 m. There are two ways to cross this. The first route is the Spring Valley Road. The second road is the road that crosses the road leading to Namunukula town through the 10th pillar. Although the second route is considered to be the easiest to climb, many believe that the first is the shortest and easiest route to climb.

If you use the road going through the 10th pillar to climb the mountain, you have to take any bus from Badulla to Passara, Moneragala, Kataragama, get on the 10th pillar, get on the Namunukula bus, get off at the bottom of the hill and take the road up through Gonakele tea estate. An hour’s trek up the hill along the tea estate will take you to a shrine, a small stream, and an old room. Along with that piece of the old room, there is a path up the tea garden. After about 10 minutes on that road, he enters a turpentine forest. From there it was the hardest part of the journey. Very slippery during the rainy season. So be sure to go carefully. If it is raining, you can see the waterfalls that are active during that time.

After an hour and a half uphill through the turpentine jungle, you enter a dense jungle. The forest is so dark that it is so foggy that you can’t even see who is coming from the other side. In the Turpentine forest, there were no clear footpaths but in this dense forest, there are clear footpaths up to the top of the mountain. In the dense jungle, it takes about two hours to reach the top. There is a camping area at the top of the hill. There is also a small well and two small ponds at the top of the Namunukula hill. There are also toilet facilities at the top of the hill. But those facilities are not available in the camping area. The top of the mountain is very cold. If anyone is thinking of going, get ready for the cold. It takes about 4 hours to climb the mountain.

This is a place that attracts a lot of local as well as foreign tourists. Don’t forget to bring back what you carry. Don’t forget to keep those places clean so that everyone can enjoy that beauty in the same way.
