City of Light or City on the Plain  is a city in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It is the most beautiful city called Nuwara Eliya. It is like heaven and anyone would like to visit again and it is 180 km away from Colombo so you can easily get there.

Nuwara Eliya has truly blessed a pleasant climate, valleys, waterfalls, mountains, and even greenery, adding to the uniqueness of the place. Nuwara Eliya is a major tourist attraction in Sri Lanka which has attracted millions of tourists. Visitors to Nuwara Eliya can enjoy a variety of recreational activities in this beautiful city, including one of Asia’s finest 18-hole golf courses, horseback riding, bird watching, and mountaineering.

Also known as Little England, Nuwara Eliya is the favorite hill station of the British who tried to turn it into a typical English village. It feels like a British country village with colonial-style bungalows, Tudor-style hotels, well-appointed hedgerows, and beautiful gardens. Another noteworthy feature is the fact that Nuwara Eliya has been the capital of the tea industry since tea was introduced to Sri Lanka in the mid-19th century. Sri Lanka is one of the largest tea exporters in the world. Due to its high altitude, Nuwara Eliya has a subtropical highland climate. Nuwara Eliya is located at the highest point of the island, at an elevation of 1890 m above sea level, and is known as the tallest city in Sri Lanka.

Horton Plains
The town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a camping spot for the Horton Plains National Park. It is located on the boundary of the central hills between Nuwara Eliya and Haputale. Amazing wildlife and natural attractions, this park is a love for nature. Purple-faced langurs, leopards, and endemic highland birds, you can see there. The world end of the Horton Plain, a breathtaking view of tea plantations and land from a height of 1050 meters, is a tourist attraction. The walk back follows the spectacular Baker’s fall. It is best to visit early in the morning, see the wildlife and see the world’s end before the fog of the late morning.

Lake Gregory
Gregory Lake is an attractive, man-made lake spread over an area of ​​91.2 hectares on the foothills of the small hills bordering the city of Nuwara Eliya. It was built by British Governor William Gregory for the use of water from the Nanu Oya River, which flows past Nuwara Eliya. The lake is popular among tourists for strolling the footpaths, taking out a swan-shaped pedal boat, or trotting around on a pony.

Hakgala Botanical Garden
Hakgala Botanic Gardens is the second largest botanical garden in Sri Lanka and is located in the picturesque section of Nuwara Eliya along the Badulla road. Visiting the gardens is a popular activity if you are vacationing in Nuwara Eliya. The garden is open all year round and the best time to enjoy the beautiful flowers is during the relatively dry and hot season of April to August. Includes a remarkable rose garden, a Japanese garden, an orchid collection, cedars, and giant cypresses.

Lover’s Leap
Lover’s Leap is a spectacular waterfall among tea plantations, just a short walk from the town of Nuwara Eliya. It falls to a height of 30 meters on a long rocky slope. This waterfall is called Lover’s Leap because a young couple decided to jump off the cliff and stay together forever.
