The Nuwara Eliya Post Office is one of the oldest post offices in the country. It was built by the British in 1894. This building has a striking beauty due to its complete red brick architecture in keeping with the Victorian architectural style. Also, the clock here is a special feature. Located in the heart of Nuwara Eliya, it has become a major tourist attraction for local and foreign tourists. Foreign tourists love to send a souvenir postcard to their loved ones as well as take it to their home country from this souvenir shop at the post office. In 2012, the upper floor of this post office was developed as a tourist accommodation at a cost of Rs. 5.4 million. The Sri Lanka Postal Department has issued a 10 rupee stamp with a photograph of the Post Office to commemorate World Postal Day on December 26, 1990.
