Mount Piduruthalagala or Pedro Mountain in English is located at a distance of 7.5km away from Nuwara Eliya. It is also the highest mountain peak in Sri Lanka. Paduruthalagala height is 2,524 meters. It can be easily distinguished from every area in the Central Province. Unlike other high peaks, it has a flat top and is covered with green Patna. Pidurutagala mountain offers unusual and breathtaking views.
It operates a number of local broadcasting centers such as the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation. And also the Government of Sri Lanka and the Armed Forces have built their communication line at the top. The communication array contributes to the operation of the radar system in Sri Lanka. Its role in maintaining communication between military personnel cannot be ignored. It is not only a mountain but also a reserve rich in biodiversity of endemic plants, flora, and fauna. There is a clear difference between the characteristics of this forest reserve and the lowland forests. This is because there are many trees with lichens and mosses that represent the typical features of a tree cloud forest.
During the colonial period, the only way to reach the maximum was to walk and ride horses. But today, after getting permission, there is an opportunity to travel in a vehicle. The army will conduct a security check before you proceed to climb the mountain. Foreign tourists are required to present their passport at the foot of Paduruthalagala as it is an army camp. Above are several Air Force and Army bases. When the vehicle enters the safety zone, it must be driven without stopping and no one can get out of the vehicle up to the summit high-security point. However, the track also offers spectacular views of flowering trees and plants, as well as spectacular views of the island.
