Puna Ella Falls in Ramboda

Puna Ella Falls in Ramboda

Ramboda Falls, located at a distance of 25 km from Nuwara Eliya, is a scenic waterfall located in Ramboda, near the city of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka. It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka and Nuwara Eliya is one of the must-visit places. It is also known as Ramboda Ella or Puna Ella. At 358 feet, it is the 11th tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka and the 729th tallest waterfall in the world.

The double fall of Ramboda Ela (Puna Ela) is unique in its ‘Y’ shape, where two waterfalls with two water sources merge into one at the bottom. The water that falls on the left is Puna Oya, a canal that flows through the forest reserve above. The fall on the right side is made up of the water of the Pundalu Oya flowing through the plantations above. Most of the year, the volume that flows through the Pandalu Oya carries more volume, but during long droughts, the role is reversed. The water flowing on the left fall is more and the water on the other fall is significantly less.

This waterfall is known by many names. Puna Ella and Poonawa Ella are the most popular. Since the two falls are originated out of Puna Oya and Pundalu Oya, The two are separately called Pundalu Oya Ella and Puna Ella. But in general, the waterfall referred to as Pundalu Oya Falls is the Dunsinane Falls in Nuwara Eliya District. This waterfall also seems to be called Ramboda Ella Falls by some.

It is located in the Pussellawa area on the A5 Expressway at Ramboda Pass. The three identifiable waterfalls are very close to each other. The middle waterfall is located near the A5 Expressway. The upper and lower sections are on either side of the road. The Y-shaped layer is at the top of the waterfall. There is an increase of about 1-2 km to reach the upper part. It will be a great place for tourists and a place to relax as it offers natural views of the hills covered in an evergreen landscape of tea estates.
