The Sri Lanka Air Force Museum is the only national museum dedicated to the field of aviation in Sri Lanka as well as the history of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). Situated off Galle Road, Ratmalana, 13Km away from Colombo this is truly an Aviation Museum where the legend of the past lives on.

This museum is open to the public and is maintained by the Sri Lanka Air Force. Sri Lanka Air Force Museum was first established in 1993 as the Sri Lanka Ratmalana Aircraft Conservation and Storage Unit and reopened on 5th November 2009 after modernization. Concept by former Air Chief Marshal Harry Goonetileke, the museum displays former aircraft and equipment of the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Royal Ceylon Air Force. Among the notable items was the first Sri Lankan Commander of the Air Force, Air Vice-Marshal E. R. Amarasekara’s medals and sword are also included.

The museum displays historic aircraft, vehicles, uniforms, and weapons. The museum consists of main gallows, outdoor exhibits, and hangar numbers 1, 2, and 3. Aircraft protected by SLAF. These are just a few, but most are owned by the SLAF Museum. Remains of Japanese aircraft shot down to Sri Lanka during World War II are also in the museum. An Austin fire truck used by the Sri Lanka Air Force and a Shoreland armored car will also be on display.

If you visit here You can get a chance to flight entertainment in a mini theater. The Mini Theater is a digitally mastered video display on the front multimedia screen to capture the aircraft cabin environment and real sensibility with DTS surround sound systems. Despite the many difficulties, a broad knowledge of the past achievements of the Sri Lanka Air Force can be gained in a short period.
