Adisham Hall or Adisham Bungalow is a country house near Haputale in the Badulla District of Sri Lanka. The house was built in 1931 by Sir Thomas Villiers, an English nobleman, and planter, former chairman of George Stewart Co, a trading and estate agency in Colombo. Sir Thomas was a grandson of John Russell and a descendant of the Duke of Bedford.

R. Booth and F. Webster designed it on a 10-acre plot of Tudor and Jacob style. Adisham Hall hosted many of the colony’s leading men until Sir Thomas retired and later sold it to Sedawat Mills owned by Vimala Wijewardene in 1949. It was purchased by the Roman Catholic Church in 1961 and later converted into a monastery. This period is well preserved with fixtures and furniture and is open to visitors.

Sir Thomas began his dream home in the country when he was president of George Stewart. He chose a peaceful place in Haputale. It is surrounded by a beautiful forest called Tangamalai. Because of the altitude of 5,000 feet, the land was enclosed. But that did not bother Sir Thomas. A path is cut through the forest to make way for the land to reach the view of the mountains and valleys and the highest mountain range in Sri Lanka. On a clear day, you will get the privilege of viewing the Totopalakanda, Hakgala, Piduruthalagala, Uda Pusselwa Mountains, Sleeping Warrior, Diyatalawa Army Camp, Namunukula, and many miles long.

The carefully cultivated flower gardens, the roof-covered Burmese teak shelves, the antique furniture, and the well-planted Adhisham Bungalow are some of the attractions that visitors can enjoy. So it is a must-see place which who visits in Mathale. Visitors can also buy delicious jams and drinks made from strawberries and etc.

Maintaining the old English attraction with well-preserved lawns, beautiful flower beds, evergreen, and glorious trees is also a costly affair and is managed by the funds raised from the gate. Therefore, it is not just a matter of time. Visitors are welcome to visit the monastery from 9 am to 4 pm on weekends (Saturdays, Sundays and Poya days and public holidays) (except Good Fridays and Christmas Days). Visitors can only visit a limited area.
