The rockpool beach is located 40 meters from the Matara – Galle main road. Thalpe is situated 10 km ahead from Galle Town. Stilt fishermen abound in this coastal town and it’s a great way to learn more about the lifestyle of this beautiful coastal town. According to the villagers the rock pools were cut out of the corals around 50 years ago and were used to soak coconut husks to separate the coconut coir. The beach is very clean and the location is not fully exposed. You will surely love it!

The best time to visit is early in the morning from March to April. Sometimes the pools are filled with sand. If you are going to visit this place, the rocky surface has sharp ridges and sea urchins are sometimes not visible under the sand. Please wear reef boots. There are not many luxury hotels near Talpe Beach, but most beach villas are ideal for families and small groups. Many villas also come with private beaches. It is generally safe all year round for a sea bath.
