In Anuradhapura, there are many monuments that date back over two thousand years. The better known of these is the Thuparama Dagaba. Thuparamaya is the first Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka. Thuparamaya is located in the sacred area of mahamewna park. It is situated in the north-central province of Sri Lanka.
Thuparamaya stupa is the earliest dagaba to be constructed in the island, during the region of king Devanampiyatissa. King Dewanampiatissa built thuparamaya during 247-207 BC. Thuparamaya dagoba has been built in the shape of a bell. This was destroyed in many times.
