The Visari Ella (Wishari Ella), also known as the Alikola Oya North falls lies hidden deep inside the mountains of Uva. The 20m-high Alikola Oya waterfalls are formed by the Punagala and Alikola Rivers, which both flow from the Maha Kande Mountain’s eastern slope. The falls flow into the Kirindi River. Turn off the Kumbalwela Junction on the Badulla-Bandarawela Junction Road, pass the Ella Road for 27 km, turn off at the Kuragama Junction and proceed for another 3 km on the By Road to reach the Visari Falls.
Drive to a house built near a beautiful paddy field on a slope and walk 500m to see the Visari Falls. That route is extremely beautiful. A stream of cool, clear water flows down the sidewalk, paved with cement. Further, the canopy should pass through the canopy of well-grown vegetables. As you approach the falls, the forest begins. The beauty of Visari Falls is given by the jungle environment.
Due to the difficulty of the Kuragama road and its lack of publicity, many tourists have missed it. By now, the footpath to reach the falls has been invaded by the jungle.

The main source of water here is the Alikotan stream. Although the amount of water leaking from the Uva Karandagolla tunnel through the Uma Oya Multipurpose Irrigation Project is currently decreasing, the water sources and the environment in the Wellawaya Alikoton Ara area are being severely damaged due to the toxic chemicals mixed with that water. The waters of Visari Falls are now greatly reduced. There is no doubt that maybe it was due to the Uma Oya project.
A platform has been constructed with a security fence to view the falls. Not suitable for bathing. This is because of the slippery and steep slopes of the rock. It is the responsibility of all of us to preserve such marvels of nature and pass them on to future generations.
