World Food Day 2020

World Food Day 2020

World Food Day is celebrated on October 16 every year, commemorating the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization on 16th October in 1945. World Food Day celebrations and events will be held on October 16 by food and agriculture-based organizations around the world, such as the World Food Program and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. This year, it is heard that such celebrations have been restricted due to the global corona epidemic.

Although we are able to produce enough food to fill the stomachs of everyone in the world daily, 821 million people worldwide are suffering from hunger every day with nothing to eat. 60% of them are women. The main reason for this situation is the imbalance between food production and its distribution. The rich and powerful nations of the world have plenty to eat. But in countries with less money and poorer people, there is no food to satisfy daily hunger. So the people of that aristocracy are wasting the surplus that remains after consuming it. As a result of this divisive division, huge numbers of poor people around the world are starving to death. Thus, the death toll from hunger worldwide is higher than the annual death toll from malaria, tuberculosis, and AIDS.

Malnutrition accounts for about 45% of the world’s infant deaths. But 3.4 million people in the world die from being overweight. Adult obesity is one of the most serious health problems in the world today. It has now been revealed that exactly one-third of the world’s food is wasted. World Food Day is dedicated to educating people around the world on how to prevent food waste and provide solutions to hunger. So really World Food Day is not a day to talk about food, it is a day to talk about hunger.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of World Food Day. The United Nations says this year’s celebrations are more special than ever. That’s because everyone is currently battling a global epidemic. According to them, 2020 is the year when the value of food has been felt the most since history. Countries with poor economic conditions are most affected by the disruption of daily activities due to the corona epidemic. Therefore, everyone has a responsibility to take care of food security while minimizing waste.
