International World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27. The UNWTO initiated World Tourism Day celebrations in 1980. The objective of World Tourism Day is to promote awareness of the value of tourism among all individuals and communities worldwide. Every year, the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) announces the theme for World Tourism Day. The theme of World Tourism Day 2022 is “Rethinking Tourism.” The ultimate focus for this year is to evaluate the tourist industry to promote sustainable growth in the sector.

Currently, most countries are experiencing a downfall in their tourist industries. The global economic crisis is one of the biggest reasons for this. The COVID-19 pandemic-related country closures and travel restrictions are other factors affecting tourism globally. With the celebrations of 2022, World Tourism Day, UNWTO intends to create more awareness about the world tourism industry (about all the sectors in the tourism industry) among the global community and uplift tourism thereby.

The UNWTO officially announces the country that will host the official celebrations of World Tourism Day each year along with the theme. Bali, in the Republic of Indonesia, will be the host country of the official World Tourism Day event in 2022.

Bali is recognized as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. This country is rich in spectacular beaches, culture, and handicrafts. Bali experiences a tropical environment where it is both warm and humid.

In October 1997, during a meeting held in Istanbul, Turkey, UNWTO decided to have different host countries for the World Tourism Day celebrations each year.

Do you know who invented modern tourism?

Thomas Cook, the founder of the international travel agency Thomas Cook & Son, is credited with contributing to the pioneering of modern tourism in the 1860s. He conducted private tours in the 1860s and worked as a ticket broker for local and international travel. This was the start of the world-famous travel agency, Thomas Cook & Son.
