World’s end in Sri Lanka

The Horton Plains Plateau ends at World’s End. It’s located in Nuwara Eliya and also one of the most tourists visited Park and a key tourist attraction in Sri Lanka. It is a stunning cliff at 880 meters. It is about 9.5 kilometers long and it takes about three hours for the journey. If you’re not there in early, the view of the World’s End is often blurred by fog, especially during the rainy season from April to September.

From around the corner of the world, around 9 am you can expect to see a white wall. Morning (6 to 9 am) is the best time to visit before the clouds roll. Then you can see the tea estate villages of the lower valley and the south-facing beach.

The National Park Office guides expect about 800 rupees. There is no fixed fee for volunteer guides, but a similar amount is expected to be donated. Some guides are familiar with the flora and fauna of the area. Wear strong, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunglasses for the journey. Bring sunscreen, food, and water. The weather in the plains can change very quickly – one minute it can be sunny and clear and the next cold and foggy. So be ready for it.

Try to avoid this walk on Sundays and public holidays when it can get crowded. Some roads are very slippery and you need to walk carefully. There are no safety rails around World’s End and there are some accidents where people fall down that slope. If you have small children with you, hold on to them as you approach the hill.
