This is a 45m tall Ellawala Devin Panna Ella Falls (also known as “Dunu Mala Ella” and “Uduwaka Ella” waterfall ) and the surrounding area is of great historical importance and steeped in legend.

There are three large caves near Devin Panna Ela, one about 0.5 km long and according to local villagers, it is possible to reach the nearby town of Ratnapura. It is said that in the past King Vijayabahu III of Sri Lanka made a home in two caves. Similarly, along the royal lines, the ashes of King Parakamabahu II of Sri Lanka are said to have been buried in the Dambadeni Seya Stupa at the nearby Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya (Temple).

It is also believed that five holes in a rock near the falls were used by the ancient queens to play the indigenous game called Pancha. According to local villagers, the streams that serve to fall even during a severe drought never dried up, and hundreds of years ago a deep pool called Alipalawalla was used for bathing elephants.
