Due to its beautiful coastline, the Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a popular tourist destination for both local and foreign tourists. In addition to the rippling waves of the golden beaches, the lagoon system of the southern part of the country, which is rich in mangroves and birds, is one of the major attractions of recent times.

You have to travel by boat or kayak to enjoy the beauty of this shallow lagoon system. You can book kayak boats in any category, Single, Double, Family, etc. When choosing a time for a boat trip, if you visit in the morning or in the evening, you will have the opportunity to experience the wonders of a bird paradise. Although Tangalle Lagoon is a separate lagoon area, it is possible to travel from Madilla Lagoon to Rekawa Lagoon by boat. The journey is about 6 km. On the way from Madilla to Rekawa, a road was built with a stone wall in one place, but from there it is possible to reach Rekawa Lagoon in about an hour after crossing the boat.

This lagoon system is rich in mangrove vegetation systems such as Varaniya, Heen Kadol, Maha Kadol, and Thillan. It is important to note that the milk of plants such as ‘Thillan’ is poisonous and can even cause blindness if the milk falls on the eyes. Fishes such as tilapia, uguduwa, godaya, and vekkayo still inhabit the lagoon. The lagoon is home to a number of species of birds, including cormorants, hawks, and sparrows, as well as peacocks and wild boars that come into the lagoon to enjoy the morning wonder. Also endemic to Sri Lanka are the Dadulena and the black-faced monkeys. If you spend two or three hours touring this lagoon system with its unspeakable beauty, it will be perfect for a stunning collection of photos.
