Karapitiya is a busy suburb of Galle in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. This is one of the leading cities in the Galle district. The city of Karapitiya has become popular due to several factors.
The largest tertiary care center in the Southern Province is located in Karapitiya. This is one of the main reasons why Karapitiya is so famous. It was established in 1982 and is the main training center of the Medical Faculty of the University of Ruhuna, one of the leading medical colleges in Sri Lanka. It is the third-largest tertiary care hospital in the country. Karapitiya Hospital caters to the health needs of the people of the Southern Province and serves the people of the surrounding areas.
The Labuduwa Advanced Technological Institute (SLIATE) is also located nearby. It has recently undergone rapid development with newly established branches in all public sector banks in Sri Lanka.

Some of them are Hirimbura Cross Road, Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha (Browns Road), Peter Kiringoda Mawatha, Maitipe First, Second, and Third Lane, Hirimbura Road, and Labuduwa Road. There are several routes from Galle to Karapitiya and across Karapitiya. Therefore, public transportation is also available in this area.
The temple called Purana Sunandaramaya is located in front of the hospital. Sri Sudharmaramaya is a famous ancient temple located at Ma Itipe in Karapitiya. Sri Dheerananda Dhamma School located there is also dedicated to children.
