Kondagala Hike in Sri Lanka

Kondagala Hike in Sri Lanka

Kondagala is a beautiful and picturesque hill called Loolcandura located in the first commercial tea estate in Sri Lanka. It is the property of the Eighteenth Sir James Taylor. He is a well known British merchant. There he did a great service to Sri Lanka. It is very easy to reach from the Kandy-Galaha side as there is such a beautiful environment up to Delthota. There is a road from the main thoroughfare of Deltota to Loolcandura, which is surrounded by beautiful surroundings. Further on we can see the giant Kondagala range on the way to Loolcandura.

On the way, you will find nameplates for James Taylor’s well and seat, turn right onto the gravel road and proceed a few meters. Then there is a gate on the road. Tickets are charged for the vehicle only. After that, you have to go about 4-6 km to the edge of the estate which is 2 feet narrow. Before that, you will find the nameplate for the well and the seat. Your vehicle should stop across the estate road and walk about 200 meters to the ruins of the bungalow. From there you will find a small footpath at the edge of the tea estate and on the right side of the bungalow near the forest. Go up the same footpath. It is a 15-minute climb to the top of Kondagala hill.

Large and green tea, streams of cool water flowed here, and all this was an interesting sight to Kondagala. The spectacular ring of the mountains served as the border of the mountaineering paradise. It is a beautiful sight to see tea leaves falling into the basket at the hands of tea pickers. The climb starts through the tea estate. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach the convention. The road is well marked and not a difficult journey. Moments before the summit there is a tough step to climb and it is considered the most difficult part of the climb. It is a very sunny day so the whole area is visible.

Kondagala is a very dangerous mountain due to the 90-degree slope of the rock valley. It is about 200 meters long and 150 meters high. Please be careful when you are on top as the wind is strong. You can see mountains like Hanthana and Gampola. The giant rocky plain is like a flat plateau. So more than 100 people can be accommodated without tents. This peak is a very beautiful mountain range but there is no place to hide from the sunrise.
