Pahanthudawa Falls is another unique waterfall in Sri Lanka. The reason is its location and nature. This waterfall is also known as Pahanthudawa due to its natural location. The waterfall is shaped like a lamp. Also, the water from the waterfall falls into the pool in the style of a lamp screen. Therefore, this is called Pahanthudawa Falls. This waterfall starts from the top of Hawagala mountain.
Situated about 1.5 km from the small town of Belihuloya in the Sabaragamuwa Province, this waterfall offers a soothing view of the blue waters. This waterfall is a branch of the Belihuloya Reservoir which flows across the Sabaragamuwa border. Running through the forest is a bit of a climb to the top of the fall but by coming to the top of it and enjoying the beauty you will realize that it is never a waste. Biodiversity is another important aspect of being in a beautiful ecosystem. Valuable plant and animal species can be found in this ecosystem. The waterfall also powers a small hydroelectric power plant that supplies water to the area. This place is perfect for stopping along the way on a long trek and is a must-visit for anyone who loves every waterfall.

It is said that a man had cut something on the rock at this place due to a family dispute and jumped into this place with a stone in his stomach. But bathing in this place is a bit adventurous and risky. During heavy rains, the water level in this area rises simultaneously for 10 to 15 minutes as the water level rises above the falls. So bathing here is risky. Be careful. The route is about 2km from the left-hand side road near the Belihuloya Rest House near the 155th post on the Colombo – Badulla road.
