All nationalities are welcome and all kinds of travelers whether groups, families, individuals.

Which airports will operate?

For tourist arrivals Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Colombo Ratmalana Airport (RMA) and Mattala Rajapaksa Hambantota Airport (MRI) are in operating from August 1, 2020.

What are the visa procedures?
  • All travelers require a valid visa; This is issued for 30 days and can be extended up to 6 months after arrival. Online visa at www.eta.gov.lk

  • Further relaxation for long-term visitors is currently under consideration, enabling tourists to be granted five-year multiple-entry visas with a maximum of 6 months’ stay.
  • Visa fee US$100

Where can I stay and is there a minimum duration?
  • At least 5 nights stay in Sri Lanka.

  • An independent professional audit is conducted to verify the accommodation providers listed on the Sri Lanka Tourism website.
    The visa application requires details of bookings with certified accommodation providers.

Pre-departure Covid-19 PCR testing

A PCR test is required before boarding your flight and arriving in Sri Lanka. Testing before boarding should not be more than 72 hours old.

On arrival in Sri Lanka

High-intensity sanitation measures are in place for all areas and staff at the airport.

  • There is no quarantine on arrival unless symptoms are detected.
  • Upon arrival at the airport, a PCR test is performed. There is no charge for it.
  • It currently takes 24 hours to get test results. We are making changes to get results in 4-6 hours by August. Test results need to wait 24 hours; You can choose a hotel to stay overnight in Colombo or Negambo’s 4 or 5-star hotels until the test results are available.
  • Another checkup is done 4-5 days after the mobile unit arrives in coordination with your certified accommodation provider.
  • For travelers staying longer than 10 days, a third check is required during their stay. This can be difficult, but it is essential to protect everyone and give them peace of mind.
  • A positive PCR result is a quarantine or hospitalization of a designated hotel based on the details of the case. If symptoms are detected, quarantine usually lasts 14 to 21 days.
Moving around Sri Lanka

The airport will have high-intensity sanitation measures in place for all areas and staff.

  • To ensure your safety, please arrange transportation with your certified accommodation provider or travel agent before your arrival. Public transport should not be used.
  • All tourist sites will be open from August 1 with safety protocols and measures to ensure the well-being of our travelers.
  • There are no tourist restrictions between districts for tourists.
What is Sri Lanka’s status with COVID-19?
