Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with no shortage of waterfalls and rivers. So you can visit such places in any district of Sri Lanka. Wedda Peni Ella is another beautiful place to visit in the Matale district. You can reach Wedda Pani Ella by traveling 36km through Rattota Riverstone in Matale District, getting off at Rattinda Post Office, and about 1km on Attenwala Village Road.

This waterfall has been created near the village of Atanwala in Thelgamu Oya starting from the 1637m high Kirigalpottha mountain which belongs to the Dumbara mountain range. There are many legends about this waterfall. It is said that the name is derived from the fact that a lot of ancient bones have been found in the village of Atanwala. There is another legend that the Vedda’s brother Atangoda who came to Pitawala village settled in this area and hence the name Atanwala. The natural beauty around this waterfall is very high. Malpethiya, a beautiful fish species endemic to Sri Lanka with a beautiful temperate climate, lives in large numbers in the Thelgamu Oya.

Also, if you go to see this waterfall and the surrounding area, it is better not to drink alcohol. Because it is the leading cause of accidents around this waterfall.
